that's what I call "why shoud I bother" symptom but I prefer to think that is takes place in our lives not because we have no soul but cuz we see that there is so much evil that we prefer not to notice it to keep sane and safe
but it actually takes less effort to change things that it seems

Intresting concept...Ukraine as I saw with my own eyes has a terriable problem with stray Cats and Dogs...I will give you some examples: In Borispol Airport in Kiev while we waited for a domestic flight to Simferopol I watched a stray Cat wonder into the Terminal thru the automatic doors then a cleaning lady came and threw ithe Cat outside ,the Cat come right back inside the terminal.The Cleaning lady came back to the Cat and grabed it by the rear legs and carried it back behind a door, I went to the door and opened it and listen ...she had killed the cat by hitting with something and thru in the garbage.We flew to Simferopol that day and we went to a Open Market near the Traian station there were many stray dogs running around some were so weak and sick ...it was horriable... I gave a few meat sticks to the weaker dogs ,but could see something we are not accustomed to and wondered about a solution to this problem.
5 years ago in Yalta I saw 100s of stray dogs in the streets actually outside of Yalta near the amusment park for kids...I watched as they were slaughter by passing cars..It was a horrrific site to see.I noticed these domesticated animals are very dosel than that of a typical pet in the USA ...as maybe they are weaker from malnitritionand such.
One thing I will bring up in the case of animals we are talking about Cats ,Dogs ect...Domesticated pets but I have never heard in many years of going to and from Ukraine or in these type forums anything about ''Wild Animals" of Ukraine.Cuople of summers ago I was with my girlfriend at the time going by trian from Kiev to Crimea of course the all night trip and in the 4 person compartment.I made a point to wake at dawn and try observe the animals as we made are way thru the countryside .....I woke at 5 Am mis July in the heart of Agriculture country...Only to see one Black Crow flying after hundreds of miles..not one animal!! i MEAN NOT EVEN A BIRD! I wondered and asked my girlfriend and she looked puzzeled...I asked a guy frind same question and he was puzzeled to and then I seen they all were puzzeled and started asking friend of a friend ect,ect,ect after a few days all came to me with answer..since there is know real enforable law of harveting wild animals all the deer,Rabbits,Bears,Ect ,Ect were killed and eaten mainly after fall of Soviets Union..So Ukraine is country of People.I did Fish near Ternopil and caught some type Carp and crappie..but to many people have eaten these animals.I went to the moutians above yalta and hiked thru the woods close to the Radar Sation near the Tarter village anddid see a track of one small dear..I think there is also a few Fox up there ,but not much else....
Its great to bring up this topic to people ,but in reality its a moot point when the people of Ukraine suffer far worst fate then Cats and Dogs especially the old its just heart breaking to see the Old people suffer alone and hungary in the streets of this wonderful country that I call my 2nd home.Ukrainians can only help there animals ,but they have help themselves before they will help a Dog..Thats the way it is...I will say that I did see and experianced Ukrainians that really loved there pets and took good care of them..actually many..so to say that the entire country is a animal abuser is not true and I,m not saying anybody said that, but thats a tall order to try and save Dogs and Cats lets save the people first.. |

 It is weird that I seen this post in here , the last time I was in the Ukraine, I was at the zoo with my significant other. and the first thing I saw were cats in the pens with live animals....... I just thought this was pet cats running around until I seen something very grizzely.......... I yelled to the keeper, and he just said to don't worry and told me about all the stray cats in kiev.... that either they are destroyed or they can be food for the animals here... My judgement was tossed.... I see their point, but I think maybe they can try and control the populations of the animals instead of cruel treatment of them. I will leave it up to you...... | Yep Laura is right: In rich society people have the possibility to care about animals Ukraine ? what is so peculiar ? In Alabama Michal Vicks was convicted of killing 23 pit-bull. He killed them with a baseball bat because they can't fight anymore. In France they over-feed the ducks to make expensive -foie gras- a malpractice that has been condemned by PETA and all the animal rights society all over the world. In Florida they kill the running dogs when they can’t run anymore. There is a fine organization that try to save them by relocation and adoption. I macho part of Spain they break the legs of their hunting dogs when they cannot hunt anymore, bring them in the wood and leave them there to die lonely. And what about the disgusting corrida ? In Alaska people have skinned dogs for fur some years ago. In Thailand a little boy in a fancy restaurant can pick the dog he will eat with his parents in fancy restaurants. They wil fry the dog alive for his own pleasure in the kitchen. In Canada hunters use big fishing baits to catch deers. They put an apple on the bait and suspend it in a tree. The deer eat the apple and get caught to the bait, agonizing for day before the hunter came back to kill him. In Japan they have begun a new whale hunting season and they pay thousands of dollars for the salmon and tuna in their shitty sushi’s. They even hunt and inhumanly kill dolphins for food. They are emptying the ocean. no respect for life. And in Russia dog fights is a good source of revenue and they treat minks like dirt for fur. And in Saudi Arabia they beat the dog just a little more than they beat women. And in Jewish Hassidic religion a dong is such am impure thing that it has to be eliminated by all means. (you should see how the Hassidic in Montreal learn their children the fear of my Labrador dog. I guess this is a moral conflict between people who think animal are sub-spices of life, and the one who believe, like me that all creature with a beating heart deserve at last some form of respect. I guess i appreciate society that has some kind of animal protection laws. but they are often faked. This initiative is fine. but yes human beings should be our priority. people starve in Africa while in snobbish squeamish America wealthy people care more for animal than for humans and leave them by testament their fortune. I guess they are lonely and don’t trust the complexity of human behavior anymore. Well: You eat meat like a cannibal ? Cow, cats, ducks, dogs, salmon ? well you got blood on your teeth. it is as simple as that. Y're guilty ! even if it is difficult to see the suffering of a chicken in a Mc Nugget or the blood of a cow in a Big Mac. Do you bring your children to a slaughter house to see how they kill the veal at 6 month ? well you bring them to fast food restaurant and it is the same thing but with a clown. A bloody clown ! Studies have shown that most serial killers begin their career by killing stray cats and dogs. We treat all form of life like we treat our animals And yes i am a vegetarian and my beloved cats, happy and comfortable wish you all, animal lovers, an happy animal caring New-year! They already know you love them. But what about the little African child in Somalia? |

So all i mean in this explicit letter i have written is: Ukraine ? well not better and probably worst than in some other places.
So what ! ? Seriously now, if you want to help, give your money to the nearby animal shelter. There is certainly a shelter in your wealthy area. The situation is bad everywhere. And it is too easy to be moralistic about a foreign country. Suffering knows no border.
All over america Local dogs and cats will be electrocuted in the next minutes. You feel ok that they are in a shelter and not on the street...? well your local shelter dont have the money to care for all of them so they will be killed on new-year eve...jut as we drink champagne. Dont play jesus the savior in a foreign country while the animals die in your own yard form indifference! Too easy...  |

| I gave you a TD because I feel that if we can help another country with a shelter we should,we are a lot richer than them and I actually like seeing all the animals in the streets there.As I've already mentioned it keeps the vermin problem down and I think from your postings you've never actually travelled there. |

Oupps, i ve been first in Poland for work for 4 months with the CBC some years ago. Stettin ,Poznan, Swinouscie, Warshaw,...I've lived in Berlin for a year or so and all around the country... Then in Russia upon the border often. Moscow too., but shortly. Got 5-6 friends in Ukr, trip to Bielorussia or else...someday? . Got some fine friends from Kiev and a girlfriend who came here 2 years ago from Kiev who was formerly from Lugansk. she was in investigative journalism too... I guess i tried to understand or at last search for answers...
Am i not aware.. ? well maybe... too emotive about animals? Maybe dear. It is up to you.
I won't discuss the level of my awareness here... it is not the place...not a contest...i tried. But our disagreement should not disturb our fine friends...and not the people who believe that there is a great cause in the well being of animals in UKR, I mostly agree. Shortly.  |
